Example Cluster Integration

Project Start

This client wanted to enhance an existing High Availability concept with the additional protection against logical failures, since clusters aren’t protecting against those incidents. However, the new solution shouldn’t replace the existing cluster as a main component of protection against hardware failures.

Solution Approach

Using the component DBShadow® of the BusinessShadow® suite, the requirements could be addressed with ease. DBShadow was installed on both servers of the two-node cluster whereas a dedicated DBShadow cluster interface ensured the interaction between DBShadow and the cluster software. The database was mirrored to a third, completely independent server in a different building, which also covered the long-wanted true Disaster protection.

Implementation

The project implementation started with a project kick-off meeting to detail the interdependencies within the complex application environment and possible implementation details. The next step was the actual implementation of the software followed by an in-depth knowledge transfer about how to handle the implementation. The project was rounded off by an emergency switch-over test and an individual user manual which covers potential crash and switch-over scenarios
